Description
ANTIQUE FRENCH YELLOW OCHRE GLAZE CONFIT POT, OIL JUG, VINEGAR JAR, 29cm TALL - 1900s - REDUCED! WILL POST - I can post this for £7.99 if paid for by bank transfer. (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment). Acquired at a Brocante in Reims, Champagne, this apparently originates from Provence but had latterly been displayed in a local country kitchen. A relatively recent antique, I’m advised this can be identified as dating to the early 20th century from it’s two handles, gargoulette spout, irregular shape, thick glaze, and hand thrown terracotta construction. Very lightly worn Terracotta drip glazed in yellow, still with it’s lid, it’s intended use was probably to store oil, vinegar, or duck fat. It is a great decorative rustic antique in very good condition for it’s age with both the handles and spout present and undamaged - usually one or all have been broken over the years! In very good, sound, antique, condition with wear and staining but no cracks or damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition. Consists of a lidded jug. It was in dusty condition when acquired and has just been washed. The surfaces are glazed in yellow to the upper half. They are attractively irregular with bumps and dents - see photos. There is some wear and a few firing imperfections giving the whole an attractive rustic patina - see photos. I’ve struggled to find any chips but there is a small piece of missing glaze to the upper handle - see photos. The spout and handles are present and in good sound condition which is unusual for a jug of this age. The bottom has wear from use but is sound. The interior is a little worn and stained sound. I have filled this with water and it appears to be watertight. I can find no maker’s mark. Measures approximately: 29 cm tall, 21 cm long handle to spout, 17 cm diameter at it’s widest, 10 cm diameter at the base, weighs about 1.8 kg. The wine bottle is to show scale and not included!
