Description
1937 Rover P2 16HP 6-cylinder Sports Saloon, a fine example of the model that made Rovers name.First registered on 2nd January, 1937 this is an early example of the new for 1937 model range. It was originally painted grey but had a colour change to the traditional black in the 1940s. It is well presented and looks particularly smart with Ace wheel discs covering the wire wheels.Late 1930s Rovers, the P2 series, were very fine cars and generously equipped. Notable features included Luvax Bijur automatic chassis lubrication, Girling mechanical brakes and Rovers patented Freewheel. The interiors were superbly appointed with comprehensive instrumentation, a slide out tool tray under the dashboard, top quality hide seats, fitted carpets and plenty of creature comforts. This example boasts a number of aftermarket accessories, namely a temperature gauge, brake efficiency indicator and a radio. The overhead valve 2.2 litre 6 cylinder engine starts instantly as Rovers do, is very smooth and quiet running with sufficient performance for driving on todays roads. The gearbox has synchromesh on third and top gears and is a joy to use. Nice touches include a quick action lever for the drivers side window and a button on the fuel gauge which, when pressed, indicates how much oil is in the sump. The paintwork is in very good condition overall although there is some micro blistering on the bootlid.Semaphore indicators are fitted which are in working condition.Presently the speedometer isnt working but this will be addressed. The blue interior is in very good condition with new leather on the drivers seat squab and new door cards. The matching blue carpets are a recent fitment. The roof lining is excellent and the sliding sun roof is in working condition as is the opening windscreen.A history file accompanies the car which includes V5, buff log books from new, sundry bills and some photos. There is a Workshop Manual and illustrated parts books. The Rover enjoys excellent support from the Rover Sports Register and being a pre war example is also eligible for VSCC events. It would be an ideal car for The Measham. We really like this car and will be sorry to see it go. However, it will give a new owner a taste of elegant 1930s motoring from a time when the Rover company was at the top of its game.A video of the car can be viewed on the St Andrews Autos YouTube channel. For more information and to arrange a viewing call James on the number provided or contact us via the website. We will happily consider taking a classic vehicle in part exchange.Thank you for reading.
