Ernestine pottery, also known as Ernestine Cannon pottery, was a mid-century Italian ceramic company based in Salerno, Italy. It was established by Ernestine Cannon (1904-1969), an American ceramicist, in 1948 in response to the post-war poverty she witnessed in the region. Ernestine Cannon's pottery was known for its unique designs, particularly its "tomato" red glaze and modernist forms. The company's earthenware was featured at a Pittsburgh trade show in 1949, leading to sales through department stores like Neiman Marcus. In 1951, Cannon received a Neiman Marcus Fashion Award for bringing new life to the Italian ceramic industry with her "creative designs".
