Description

I’ve got this original Moulton Mini Junior bike — blue, single speed, just had a service and it’s in great shape for its age. Built in June 1969, it was part of the early Moulton lineup, licensed in 1970 and distributed through toy shops by Triang. The photo’s show it well — it’s not flashy, but it’s solid and has a real classic feel.

The only thing missing is the saddle — it’s cracked, but everything else is original. I found out about this model through the Moulton Bicycle Club, and it’s actually a pretty clever design for its time. Alex Moulton, who had a background in cars and loved cycling, went back to basics and asked why bikes hadn’t changed much since the 1880s. He figured small wheels were actually stronger, lighter, and more efficient — especially with high-pressure tyres (60 psi back then). The 16-17 inch wheel size was ideal, and suspension was key to handle the bumpy roads.

It’s not just about the wheels — the low step-in height made it safer and easier for kids (and women), and the luggage carry feature kept it stable. Plus, the frame’s separable design meant you could easily take it apart for storage or transport — super handy for a family.

I’ve ridden it a few times, and it’s still fun. It’s not flashy or modern, but it’s honest — a real piece of cycling history. I’m keeping it in Shepperton, Borough of Spelthorne, and it’s only £72. If you’re into vintage bikes or just like the idea of a solid, classic ride, I’d love to chat.
