AC Cobra Tribute
Description
So, I’ve had this car for a few years now and honestly, it’s become one of my go-to summer drives. It’s not a real AC Cobra, but it’s got that same cool, retro vibe — built from a BMW Z3 2.8i, so the engine, steering, brakes, and interior are all original BMW bits. The body’s a fibreglass swap, so it’s got that classic look without the full rebuild.I’ve kept it as close to stock as possible — original 5-speed manual, Z3 doors, electric roof, and all the standard bits. The interior’s still got that clean Z3 feel, and I’ve added some upgrades to make it more modern: LED lights all around, new 2024 DARE LM 19-inch wheels, and KUMHO tires — front and rear, both from late 2024, with about 99% tread left.
I’ve also got coilovers fitted — it sits low and nice, doesn’t rub or bottom out at all. The exhaust is custom, and it really makes the 2.8 sing, like it was meant to in the 60s. I’ve got a new head unit, speakers (X4), and a subwoofer in a custom box behind the seats — so the sound’s actually pretty solid.
One thing to note: the aircon was removed during the bodywork, so it’s not there. But it’s been a while since I’ve used it, and I’ve not needed it much. The car’s been well-maintained, and it’s got 128k miles.
Paint’s Boston Green Metallic — matches the original colour, and it looks good from a distance. Up close, it’s a bit rough — you can see and feel the texture, but it’s not bad, and it gives it that vintage feel.
It’s currently parked in nailsea, North Somerset, and I’m happy to show it around if you’re local or want to see it in person. It’s been my summer car for years, and I’m just passing it on now — it’s been a joy to drive, and I think it’ll be great for someone who wants a cool, unique ride with a bit of history.
Price is £14,400 — I’ll keep that in mind if you’re interested.
