Icom IC-R8500 Professional Radio Scanner
Description
I’ve had this Icom IC-R8500 for a few years now and it’s been a real workhorse — especially when I’m into tracking different kinds of signals. It covers a massive range from 0.1 MHz to 2000 MHz, so you can pick up everything from AM/FM radio, shortwave, to military and aviation bands. The sensitivity is solid, and the digital processing helps cut through noise, which is a big deal when you're trying to pick up weak signals.I use it mostly for hobby stuff, but it’s also been useful for monitoring emergency or public service frequencies. The dual VFOs let you switch between channels easily, and the spectrum scope on the screen helps you see what’s actually out there in real time. I’ve got a built-in RF preamp and it works well with external antennas — useful when you’re on the move or in a spot with poor reception.
It’s a desktop unit, so it doesn’t take up much space, and the power supply is included. I’m based in Fairbourne, Gwynedd, and I’d prefer to collect it — I’m happy to take it over if you're local, but I can also post it if needed.
I bought it a while back and it’s been dependable, so I’m just passing it on now. If you’re into radio scanning or just want something that can pick up a wide range of signals, it might be worth a look. I’ve kept it in good shape and it’s not been used much beyond normal use.
