Description

So, I’ve got this 1963 1200 VW Beetle — brought over from Spain in 2014, ended up in a museum, then I got it and brought it back to life. It’s a true matching numbers car, one owner, everything done right — nuts and bolts, no shortcuts.

Rust-free, fully restored, but kept as much original as possible. The interior’s still original except the carpets — I didn’t replace those, just wanted to keep the soul of it. The back seat had a bit of water damage years ago (passenger side rear windows leaked at some point), but I didn’t go full recovery, just left it as is.

I’ve done a full overhaul: brand new brake system, now dual circuit, 12V upgrade with a new alternator. The front lights are now mini-style LED — actually visible at night, which is a big win. All the gaskets, seals, rubber trim, window seals, bonnet, engine lid, wing beading — everything’s been replaced or renewed. New wiper arms and blades, new bumper irons, heater channels, floorpans, fuel lines, electronic ignition, dizzy, steering damper, brake lines, hoses, master cylinder seals, track rods.

Still has the original large running boards and tar side boards in the engine bay. The engine is completely sound deadened, and the underbonnet area is carpeted — so it’s quiet and clean under the hood.

A few small things left to do: a good flat and polish to bring it to perfection, headliner cleaning in a couple of spots, some electrical bits (rear light connection needs cleaning after 30+ years of sitting), door shims to tidy up the gaps — I’ve got it close, just a bit of work left. New window scrapers too — if you’re that fussy, I’ll add them.

It starts and runs great, drives smoothly, stops properly — nothing major. The horn actually works, which is a bonus. I’ve got a video showing it in action, so if you’re curious, just check it out.

I’m in Aldeburgh, East Suffolk — easy to get to, not far from the coast. I’m selling it because I’m moving house and now travelling, and I’ve got way too many vehicles, bikes, dubs — just don’t want to give them away. If no serious buyers come through, I’ll finish it up and sell it in summer.

Honestly, I don’t think you’ll find another car this old, this clean, this complete — with no welding, no bodywork, no paint jobs — for the same price. It’s not just a car, it’s a piece of history, and I’ve put a lot of care into it.

If you’ve got any questions or want to see it, just ask — I’ll try to make it easy.
