Suar Wood Slab from Bali
Description
This Suar wood slab came from Bali — I got it a few years ago when I was doing some woodworking on a side project. It’s got this natural, flowing grain, like it’s been shaped by the wind and time. The curves are smooth, the wood is solid and doesn’t splinter, and it’s actually quite strong. I’m not sure if it’s monkey pod or acacia, but the grain is definitely rich and warm. It’s about 250cm long, 75 or 62cm wide, and 7cm thick — massive piece, weighs in at around 100kg. I’ve been thinking about using it for a bar top or a headboard, something with real character.
It’s now in Bidford-on-Avon, near Stratford-on-Avon, so if you’re around, I’d be happy to show it — no rush, just a quick drop by if you’re interested.
Priced at £711 — not a lot of people have this kind of raw, hand-sawn slab, so it’s been a solid piece to have in my workshop.
